It’s summer and that means the 4th of July is coming. When I think of the 4th of July, I think of cook-outs, grilling, fun in the sun, and spending time with family and friends.
For many of us, we often include our dogs in the 4th of July activities, which is all fun and games until night fall. Have you noticed that your dog will start to shake and tremble at the sound of firecrackers or the flash of lights in the sky? The loud bing, bang, and boom often scares them. Your dog has no way of expressing that they’re nervous and scared. You'll have to pay close attention to their body language to find this out.
Below are my top tricks for reducing the anxiety of the 4th of July for your dog.
Calming treats or medication – When it is getting close to “Bing, Bam, and Boom Time”, give your dog a calming treat or medication. For me, I like to give my dog a treat filled with CBD Oil. (See my blog post about the benefits of CBD oil). The calming treats help to reduce their anxiety and increase a level of calmness when in an anxious environment.
By using these techniques, your dog will be able to enjoy the 4th of July as much as you will.
